I’m afraid I forgot to take in progress photos of this make today as I was too engrossed in the task and it was taking so long lol! So hopefully you’ll get the idea from me explaining it with the pics of it finished.
I started with an egg hutch, which is basically a little cupboard you are meant to keep on your kitchen counter for holding eggs in lol. It had two little shelves in it with holes in for the eggs to sit in. I’ve already adapted the inside in the picture below but hopefully it will give you an idea as to what the heck an egg hutch is if you haven’t come across them before lol!
The plan was to make it into an animal hutch and I finally finished today. Well. I’ve finished the basic adaptation but I still need to finish it off with some accessories and decoration etc. Anyway, its taken me a while as I can only use one hand due to my illness so all crafting takes a long time for me lol, but this took particular effort.
I used jumbo lolly (popsicle) sticks to make floor boards to cover the holes on the shelves inside the hutch. I cut them to fit, and shaped them on the top shelf to go around one of the holes so that I could put a ramp (again, made from one of the jumbo lolly sticks) down to the bottom floor. Its not the neatest job in the world but it does the job!
Brave stepped in to model to give you an idea of the size. As you can see, its suitable for chickens and guinea pigs 😉 I need to make some “bedding” to go in there and accessories such as a food bowl and water bottle etc but for the basic adaptation, I am pretty pleased with it so far 🙂 I am also going to add legs to it to make it a little taller. I’m sure I’ll post more pictures again when it is complete.
